Who are we

Global Tesol Costa Rica is an amazing company whose mandate is focused in training Native English Speakers and helping them find work at reputable ESL schools. Andre Sigourney is not only an incredible teacher, but is also extremely dedicated in helping his graduates feel settled and help them get established in the country and within their line of work. I am so happy with my decision to study through Global Tesol Costa Rica, and am happy to have gained international experience. I highly recommend Global Tesol Costa Rica to anyone who is interested in learning more about ESL and who wants to gain first hand teaching experience in the beautiful scenery of Costa Rica.

Charmaine D'Souza, 2010 Global Tesol Graduate

Global TESOL College Costa Rica is located in an architecturally magnificent building. The accommodations are fabulous: private, clean, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The property borders national nature reserves and the opportunities abound for having some down time in those misty green places that make Costa Rica famous.

Having been a student of GTC Costa Rica for several months, I can say that the specialization courses expand on the Foundation material and that my professional development has been remarkable. I am competent to perform in the classroom, to support other teachers and to design program resources.

Thanks, GTC Costa Rica. I'm a success!

If you are looking to get certified to teach ESL then choose this school! I completed my training with Andre at Global Tesol College Costa Rica at the end of January 2011. I am now working for Inlingua international language center in San Pedro, Costa Rica and I am loving it! The techniques and personal experiences that Andre offers in his training are invaluable and I utilize them in my classes every day. I have talked to many that have done a Tesol or Tefl course and no one I know has told me of a course that covered as much information on being a great teacher and gives the opportunity to implement the techniques as Global TESOL College Costa Rica. Thank you to Global TESOL College Costa Rica, and especially Andre, for preparing me to be a great dynamic teacher that my students appreciate!

If you are planning on taking a TESOL course, take it here!! Taking the course here in Costa Rica was the best decision I made! Not only do you get to teach real English classes for practice and experience, but you get be a part of an amazing Costa Rican community and experience the country as a local! Everyone here is amazingly welcoming and friendly, they make you feel right at home. Living on the fern plantation is absolutely beautiful and peaceful, while being only a short walk (or bus) into town, or a quick bus ride into the city of San Jose. Every morning we wake up and eat a delicious breakfast with a view of the mountains, valley, and the city way below (On a really clear day you can even see the ocean!). This gorgeous view is what we have when we take our classes, study, and relax! After the course, we were provided with many contacts for schools around Costa Rica, and feel well prepared to find employment here, or anywhere in the world! Come to Global TESOL Costa Rica, you won't regret it!

I am no longer waiting! After researching this for 6 months, and communicating back and forth with Global TESOL Costa Rica, I arrived on Feb. 4th with a very stress-free pass through immigration and customs, and was met by our gracious host and teacher, Andre Sigourney. After a quick car trip and local tour, I was greeted at the new, state of the art TESOL building on a beautiful fern plantation in the hills above San Jose, in the friendly town of Coronado. The staff here is kind and very accommodating, the rooms are nicer than many hotels I have stayed in, with a private bath and oversized shower, comfortable beds and amazing views that change with the winds, lighting, and atmospheric conditions. The meals are prepared on site and made with delicious local foods.
I look forward to beginning my class on Monday!

I am a recent Global Tesol graduate and proud to announce that I am a full-time teacher now living my dream in Costa Rica. Both my husband and I took advantage of the opportunities presented and made the life changing decision to better our lives in so many ways. We were happy mid-life business persons but decided to simplify our lifestyle and choose new careers that embodied much of our life experiences and opened the door for new adventures. To be completely honest, we also wanted to live in a more tropical country than North America and thought Costa Rica would be the paradise we were searching for.

Teaching English to these wonderful, compassionate, friendly and lively Costa Ricans ('Ticos') can hardly be considered work but in our new surroundings and stress-free lifestyle, we are quickly adapting to the 'Pura Vida' and totally happy with our decision.

How did Global Tesol make this happen - well start with a desire to improve yourself...whether you decide to teach English as a second language or simply learn a new skill, Global Tesol taught us a lot about ourselves, our character and our goals. After we finished our Fundamentals course we were like greedy sponges ready to absorb as much as possible in continued specialization courses and actually enjoyed the Back to School experience.....OK so it was a bit tough to study, take notes, interact with younger fresher minds, and take quizzes on skills that we took for granted, but I can now explain why as native English speakers, we use so many strange idioms and expressions! When was the last time you had to explain what raining like cats and dogs meant, or the joy of explaining why you want to sleep like a log!!

Global Tesol offered a learning experience that was interactive, refreshing, informative, and taught both my husband and I about the advantages we have available to us for this wonderful teaching career. We can travel, learn and appreciate new cultures, help others, get a tan AND earn a decent living. Their approach to teaching is as exciting and as effective as you want it to be. They give you all the tools to build on your future and it is then up to you to choose the path that best fits your goals.

Their training books and manuals are gold: mine are marked up, highlighted, underlined, dog eared and totally treasured. In the past, when someone offered me 'pearls of wisdom' I used to think jewelry, now I think of Global Tesol instructions and teaching tips! Being taught to teach was only part of the Global Tesol experience, we also learned how to source out relevant information, how to find a job that suited our needs, how to negotiate the contract, how to prepare for whatever new country we choose, and what to look for and what to be wary of. We soon realized that the contacts and 100% job guarantee that Global Tesol offered were better than many of the other training facilities we had heard about.

If this all sounds too good to be true, please remember that YOU must add common sense, flexibility, be responsible for your choices and WANT to make the most of the opportunity and adventure you are looking for. We did. While concentrating on our tan, we most certainly had to brush up on our grammar.

As a middle-aged couple who insisted on being hired together, in one of only a few countries we would consider, with salary expectations that we were not ready to compromise on and travelling with our dear dog Dexter....Andre Sigourney and his team at Global Tesol Costa Rica made everything possible. We had a positive attitude and they made our dreams come true and introduced us to our current employer in beautiful San Jose, Costa Rica. I have never been as proud of myself and my career and thrilled about our future as I am right now. My husband is shaking his head in agreement so we are happy and grateful Global Tesol grads who work to live rather than live to work. Never confuse having a career with having a life and now we have both.
Sincerely,

June Feldman

I completed the Global TESOL Foundation Course in Coronado de San Jose in December of 2010. My entire experience was exceptional and I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in teaching English! I was taken care of and supported right from the moment I was picked up from my hostel, throughout the course, to when I was taken to job interviews, finally accepting a job at Inlingua International, a very reputable English school in San Jose and all over the world. The course was challenging, but the end results were worth it! It was very thorough, as it was one month in length in comparison to some shorter courses that are available where you can get certified in under a week. There was a combination of classroom instruction and practice teaching. Taking the course in Costa Rica allowed me to gain a lot of practical experience, by first observing several classes being taught by an experienced ESL teacher, then teaching real classes myself under my instructor's supervision. It was a great chance to gain practice and receive very helpful feedback. I found the classroom portion of the course also to be extremely valuable as we went over the teaching methodologies and strategies in depth and my instructor was very helpful in their explanations and answering my questions and concerns. After having spoken with many other ESL teachers, I have no doubt in my mind that Global TESOL Costa Rica is a superior school and leaves you confident and well prepared to for any classroom environment.
Brenda
