FAQ’s About Global TESOL College Costa Rica

What should I pack?

Besides casual wear to use during the TESOL course hours, it will be important to bring foul weather gear, a bathing suit, hiking boots, mosquito repellant and sun block, remember Costa Rica is a tropical country. Since the weather changes frequently up in the mountains of Costa Rica it is important to have a combination of summer wear and warm clothing. Since a portion of the TESOL course can be completed online, it is also highly recommended to bring a laptop computer if you have one. Our TESOL training center is fully equipped with free wireless Internet.

How will the transportation in Costa Rica work when I arrive?

We’ll meet you at the airport the moment you arrive and take you right to our training center. If you choose to venture out on your own, downtown Coronado is a quick bus ride away. From Coronado you can get a direct bus to downtown San José.

Will I have to find my own accommodations?

No. Every TESOL trainee attending our TESOL course will be provided with his or her own private bedroom and bathroom in our training facility. There will be free wireless Internet along with all the utilities to make your lodging in Costa Rica experience a comfortable one.

What am I able to do with my free time?

Your free time is yours to explore Costa Rica. We will be offering many different after class activities along with weekend trips to keep you busy. However, if you still manage to find some extra time, we hope you'll explore the surrounding area. Coronado has many different restaurants and cafes and San Jose is easily accessible by bus if you want to branch out.

How much money should I take with me for the first month abroad?

Enough money to last at least a month, if not longer. Most ATM machines in Costa Rica accept foreign debit cards and disperse dollars or automatically make the conversion into the local currency. American dollars are accepted virtually everywhere as well as all major credit cards. Remember to make sure that you have enough money to get home if something goes wrong or if there is an emergency. It is important to have emergency funds available to you so that you will never feel trapped in the country. Cost of living in Costa Rica is very low when compared to most North American cities.
